Natural Rubber

Extracted from the bark of tropical trees, rubber is a natural polymer made of an organic compound called isoprene. This raw material is sourced from a milky white fluid called latex, that’s produced by many plants.

Properties:

Natural rubber strength and elasticity enables stretching frequently without damage. It makes fabrication easier with a great green strength and tack, which means it can attach to itself and other materials like brass-plated steel cables which makes it an ideal choice for use in rubber tires. One of its disadvantages is that it has a modest resistance to environmental degradation caused by heat, light, and ozone. With a low hysteresis it generates less heat which escalates its capability to preserve the life of a new tire while extending its retreadability. It refines fuel efficiency with a low rolling resistance and inhibits excellent cutting, chipping, and tearing resistance.

Application:

As one of the most important polymers in society today, latex is used in multiple products like medical devices, surgical gloves, aircraft and car tires etc. It functions as a good water repellent and is also used in catheters, balloons, medical tubes, elastic thread, and various adhesives. Thanks to its strength and compressibility, natural rubber is the only raw material other than rayon that is used in the car industry. It proves to be a great raw material for springs.
