Gaskets are also known as joints and form a static seal when fitted between two stationary parts of an appliance. Usually made from flexible materials like rubber, they are used to block the leakage of liquids. Other typical applications of gaskets include anti-vibration and mounting. Their flexible and functional nature allows them to operate in a broad scope of purposes.
Applications
Seal liquids:
Rubber gaskets have high resistance to chemicals like viton while nitrile can withstand oils, fuels and solvents in industries that deal with extreme chemical reactions.
Environmental seals:
These seals protect an electrical assembly from dust and environmental stressors. These may be manufactured from materials to suit virtually any service situation.
Anti Vibration
In most industrial equipment, there’s a lot of friction between moving parts. This causes vibration and noise, which could result in machine failure overtime. Gaskets control these vibrations by obstructing those frequencies and absorbing the energy through anti-vibration flooring. They are fixed in machinery mountings, pipe supports or structural bearings.
Mountings
Nowadays technology employs more digital displays that are fragile and require safe-guarding from the ingress of dust, shock or contact with liquids. Electrical switchgear also incorporates displays to impart information and consistently need access panels that use gaskets to secure the integrity of protective ratings.
Flange gaskets:
Types of flange gaskets include ring gaskets and full face gaskets that are made from materials such as rubber, non-asbestos and graphite. They are used in a wide range of industries, including chemical, food, medical, oil & gas and plumbing.
