BOMBAY OIL SEALS COMPANY
CAS number: 9011-17-0
Designed for high temperature operations, FKM is a class of synthetic rubber that offers extraordinary levels of resistance to chemicals, heat and oil with a service life above 200°C. Its fluorine levels range from 66%, 68%, & 70% respectively and as its fluorine levels go up so does fluid resistance. Like most elastomers, fluoroelastomers are composed of multiple monomers.
Properties:
Fluoroelastomers have excellent resistance to chemical oxidation by acids and fuels as well as a low compression set. The high ratio of fluorine to hydrogen raises its carbon-fluorine bond strength. Composed with monomers, it can be customized to boost its existing properties, two of which are good oil resistance and outstanding heat stability. FKM has a moderately good resistance to steam, methanol, hot water, and other highly polar fluids. Peroxide cured fluoroelastomers on the other hand have an inherently better resistance to the same fluids.
Application:
The fluoroelastomer family is chosen for new applications in a range of industries everyday. The properties of static seals, fuel hoses, fuel injectors, in tanks, flue duct exp, joints, valve liners, roll covers, sheet stock and cut gaskets are customized with Viton. They are used in the automotive industry to meet the performance requirements for shaft seals, check valve balls, diaphragms, military flare binders, electrical connectors, tire valve stem seals, clips for jet engines, lathe cut gaskets etc. Industries like automotive, semiconductor manufacturing, air transportation, medical, food manufacture, chemical processing, power generation etc also benefit from the exceptional performance of fluoroelastomers.
